He was predeceased by: his parents, Vincenzo Gabriele and Caterina Colletti Gabriele; his brothers, Phillip Gabriele of Wilkes-Barre and Angelo Gabriele; and also, Campobello, Mazara and Trapani.

He is survived by: his wife Theresa M. Gabriele Pohutski; his children, Vincent Gabriele of Wilkes-Barre, Felicia Gabriele-Bagnato, John P. Gabriele Jr. and Catherine Gabriele; his grandchildren, Rebecca Gabriele of Wilkes-Barre, Rachael Gabriele of Nanticoke, John Bagnato Jr., West Point, Joseph Bagnato of Pittston, Anthony Gabriele of Nanticoke, Isabella Gabriele of Wilkes-Barre and Spencer Gabriele of Dallas; and his great grandchildren, Adeline Gabriele of Pittston and Alessa Bagnato of Pittston. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre.
