He was predeceased by: his parents, John Saulen and Pauline Saulen (Reeder); his brother Marty Saulen; and his cousin Harvey Bruce Reeder. He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, Lisa Abernethy of Smithmill, Andrew Saulen of Tampa, Florida and Melanie Saulen of Williamsburg; and his stepchildren, Karen Farleman and Allen Clark. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
