He was predeceased by: his parents, Fairmont Shaffer and Daisy Shaffer (Slater); his wife Joann Shaffer; his son Gary Michael Shaffer; his siblings, Wayne Shaffer Sr. (Pearle), Norman Shaffer (Lucy Ann) and Shirley Howard (Ray); his parents-in-law, Eberhart and Elizabeth Terhorst (Lietke); and his siblings-in-law, Clarence, William (Bill), Louis, Jack Terhorst, Frank Patula, Nellie Patula, Delores, Donna and Claudia Terhorst.
He is survived by: his children, Brian Shaffer (Paula) of Acme and Lori Schrock of Scottdale; his daughter-in-law Brenda of Penn Hills; his grandchildren, Kyle Shaffer (Kristen), Lauren Shaffer (Brendan), David Schrock, Jessica Jacob (Jeff), Jonathan Shaffer (Sierra), Lindsay Shaffer (Drew), Aaron Trout and Jade Shaffer; his great grandchildren, Lilliana Shaffer and Brendan; and his siblings-in-law, Jerry Terhorst (Joyce) of Greensburg, Edna Terhorst of Acme and Joni Dewhirst (Tom) of Mt. Pleasant. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
