She was predeceased by: her father Alvin Harper Austin; her granddaughter Hannah Renee Nelson; and her sister-in-law Marion Johnson. She is survived by: her mother Louvina Irene Burkett of Ambridge, Pennsylvania.; her friend Jean Harris; her husband Jack Lennart Nelson; her close friend Ailsia Hulet Nelson; her children, Joel (Chris), Lynnea, Jimmy (Ingrid) and Laurie (Chris); her grandchildren, Kali, Meghan, Emily, Jack, Victoria, Daniel, Anna Nelson, Abigail, Sophia Cerci, Reed and Lucas Christner; her sisters, Diane Powell, Ruth Corll and Mary Smith; and also, Stanley and Dr. Jonas Salk. She is also survived by nieces, and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, December 9th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home (1065 Brookline Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15226). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 10th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church (1207 Washington Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15228).
Memorial tributes may be made to two of her favorite charities, MAP International or Smile Train.
