She was predeceased by: her husband Walter W. Bates; her parents, Ira Alleman and Edna Alleman (Herr); and her children, Barry, Robert and Darlene Bates.

She is survived by: her children, Walter (Carol Bates), Gerald Bates (Lawanna), James (Kim Bates), Dennis (Christina Bates), Joseph (Patty Bates), Michael Bates (Tammy), Shirley (Kenneth Good), Beverly (Walter Crawford) and Lynn (Tim Roh); and her sisters, Verna McDaniel and Orpha Wagner. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren.
