He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bender and Mary Belle Bender. He is survived by: his siblings, Jo A. Phillips (Rance M. Phillips) of Mount Joy and Barry J. Bender (Beverly Bender) of Mastersonville; his nephew Todd A. Phillips; and his nieces, Tracy L. Davis and Erika J. Kurtz.

“Hello, my name is Steve Zell and I am a former classmate and soccer teammate of David, EAHS Class of 1976. At that time soccer was a new sport that we tried to play. Given David was our goalie that sometimes made goalie a difficult position to play especially after I accidentally broke a bone in our very good defender's foot (sorry Bryan) but David always had a smile on his face!
