He was predeceased by: his parents, James Paul Sr. and Margaret Orr Dawson; and his brother Thomas Glenn Dawson. He is survived by: his wife Donna M. Dawson; his daughters, Rebecca Dawson, Amy Dawson and Holli Snyder (Andrew); his grandchildren, Abigail Bach (Aaron) of James Thomas and Ryan Snyder; and his brother Richard Dawson (Judy). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
