Eugene Donachie Obituary
Eugene R. Donachie Jr., aged 60, of Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania, sadly left our world on July 10, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 18, 1963 at Abington Hospital to Eugene R Donachie Sr. and Marie Donachie (nee McLain).
Gene is survived by his beloved wife Peggy Ann (nee: Mullen), son Brendan (21), daughter Sadie (15), mother Marie Donachie (nee: McLain); brothers Raymond (Pamela), Timothy (Miriam), dear aunt Dorothy Jones (nee: McLain), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his late father Eugene R Donachie Sr. and sister Maureen A. Lewis (nee: Donachie).
Gene was known to all as a family man, to colleagues as a humble leader in the industrial water treatment industry, and to friends as a passionate automotive enthusiast. He could be counted on to answer with his famous line, “it’s no problem” upon any request for hands-on help or advice. Together for 32 years and married for 27 years, Gene was a devoted husband to his wife Peggy, and you rarely saw one without the other, especially at their favorite breakfast spot. In his free time, Gene enjoyed watching his son Brendan’s baseball games and attending his daughter Sadie’s robotic competitions and theater performances followed by ice cream dates. Gene loved sharing his love of thrills with his kids at amusement parks, Philly sports and NASCAR, grilling, and going for walks in the park with the family dog Rosie. In his younger days, he was a racecar driver, Harley rider, and liked to do hand stands on his skateboard. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Philadelphia University with a B.S. in Finance and was a member of Upper Dublin High School’s class of 1981. He was a loyal parishioner of Mary, Mother of the Redeemer and valued Catholic education for his children, working hard to send his son to La Salle College High School and his daughter to Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy.
He dedicated over 30 years to the Industrial Water Treatment Industry, finishing his career as Vice President of Business Development at Pyxis Lab following his service to Prominent Fluid Controls as National Sales Manager. He was loved by colleagues and clients alike, always rising to any occasion.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, from 9am – 11am, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am., at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, 1350 Upper State Road, North Wales, PA 19454. Father Thomas Wittingham officiating. Burial will take place at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont, PA.
Gene was the rock of his family as sole provider and was inseparable from his wife Peg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gene’s memory to support the Donachie children’s education. Please make checks payable to Peggy Ann Donachie and send to P.O. Box 11, 411 Doylestown Rd, Montgomeryville PA 18936.
Family and friends alike will remember his easing presence and contagious laugh. Those fortunate enough to have known him would say he was a special gem with the patience of a saint, a jack-of-all-trades, and a great man willing to make time for anyone.
