He was predeceased by: his wife Ruth Ellen Hammer (Smith); and his mother Eleanor Hammer (Shaffer). He is survived by: his children, Kim Newmaster (Ray), J. Michael "Mike" Hammer (Nancy), Mark E. Hammer and Kris Stoecklein (Ron); and his grandchildren, Brittany DeSimone (Sam), Terra Ortiz, Chelsea Grondziowski (Brian), Danielle Esposito (Anthony), Derek Stoecklein (Stephanie), Jordan Strauss (Rob), Courtney Bahnsen (Brad) and Ashley Brocato (Zach). He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren.
