He was predeceased by: his wife Constance Black Achenbach. He is survived by: his parents, John H. Achenbach and Linda Carnes Achenbach; his sons, John W. Achenbach II and Mark Achenbach (Joan) of Millerstown; his siblings, George Achenbach of Duncannon and Mary Louise Dowdrick of Duncannon; and his grandchildren, Amy Wanner, Andrew Achenbach, Caitlin Achenbach, Jennifer Robertson and Mark J. Achenbach.
