Nevin E. Walk Obituary
Nevin E. Walk, 74, of rural Julian passed away at UPMC Altoona on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Nevin was born in Bellefonte on February 1, 1949, the son of late Clifford and Lorraine Halderman Walk. On June 17, 1989 he married the love of his life, Rebecca Mae Baney Fisher with whom he shared nearly 34 wonderful years together. Nevin was a 1968 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He joined the United States Army in November 1968 and was deployed to Vietnam in April 1969. On May 12, 1969 while under enemy gunfire during the Vietnam War, he suffered injuries to both of his legs resulting in the amputation of his right leg and had shrapnel wounds in his left leg for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Heroism and the Brave Eagle Coin which symbolizes your willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. As PFC, he had served as Cannoneer for the Forth Howitzer Section of Battery C, 2nd Battallion, 319th Artillery. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service.
Along with his wife, Nevin is survived by his one son, Curtis (Tiffany) Walk of Houtzdale and his grandchildren, Jamie, Hunter and step granddaughter, McKayla Young and his daughter, Nixie (Robert) Feather and grandchildren, Andrew, Deanna and Cyler of Boalsbur and a stepson, Paul (Marie) Fisher and grandchildren, Abigail (Trevor) Packer, of Beech Creek, Madison, Phoebe and Lucy of (Bellefonte). Nevin is also survived by his two sisters, Linda (Ernie) Gummo of Iowa, Brenda Walker (Scott Crain) of Milesburg and his three brothers, Barry (Violet) Walk of Julian; Joseph (Christine) Walk of Julian and John (Marion) Walk of Germany. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Walk and his wife, Kay of Milesburg. He was a member of Eagle Heights Bible Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hunting for arrowheads. He was an avid high school and college sports enthusiast.
Family and friends will be received at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 5 PM to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11 AM with Pastor Stephen R. Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Eagle Cemetery, Boggs Twp., Centre Co. where military honors will be accorded.
