Merle L. Greene Obituary
Merle L. Greene, 94, of Milesburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the Eagle Valley Personal Care Home. Born on May 25, 1929, in McConnellstown, he was the son of the late Paul R. and Thelma A. (Wilfley) Greene. On July 28, 1950, in Port Royal, he married Lillian L. "Bobbie" Root. Bobbie passed away on October 26, 2009.
Merle was a 1948 graduate of Huntingdon High School. He enlisted in the United States Marines and earned the rank of Sgt before his honorable discharge on September 12, 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal w/3*, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korea National Defense Service Medal for his years of service.
Merle was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and later Conrail as a Signal Maintenance Man and retired after 40 ½ years. He was a member of the Milesburg United Methodist Church.
Merle enjoyed woodworking and crafting pens. He would take his crafts to the local craft shows to sell, his favorite was the People's Choice in Boalsburg. He also enjoyed hunting from his camp, The Hardly Able Camp, and went hunting in Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Alaska, and Newfoundland. He like to watch Penn State and Pittsburgh Steeler's football games.
Merle is survived by two sons: Dan S. Greene and his wife, Gina, and Randy J. Greene and his wife, Janice and one daughter, Lori Greene and her companion, Ross Litz, all of Milesburg. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Alexis Chantel, Hiliary Trapani, Jamie Hayward, and Chad Davidson; five great grandchildren: Ryder Chandel, Olivia Chantel, Hunter Davidson, Colton Hayward, and Taylor Davidson.
Following Merle's wishes, there will be no public services. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Huntingdon Memorial Gardens in the spring of 2024.
