He was predeceased by: his parents, William Newbold Ely, Jr. and Elisabeth Taylor Ely; his spouse Meryweather Strong Ely; and his child Ethelwyn Ely Erdmann. He is survived by: his children, Tony, Peter, Timothy and Ann Ely Norris. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
