He was predeceased by: his parents, Alva A. Burgess and Pearlie J. Burgess (Nelson); his son Christopher Scott Burgess; and his brothers, Ivan and Eston.
He is survived by: his wife Vivian Burgess (Smith); his daughter Jenny Elizabeth Pierce (Donnie) of Carlisle; his grandchildren, Remi Lorraine Pierce of Newville, Brody Scott Burgess and Dylan Scott Pierce of Carlisle; his siblings, Juanita Scott of Brandywine, WV, Wilda Libby (Larry) of Anchorage, AK, Leon Burgess of Milam, WV, Carl Burgess (Linda) of Moorefield, WV and Alva Burgess, Jr. (Lisa) of Norwich, CT; and his aunt Thelma Landis of Seneca Rocks, WV. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 28th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, January 29th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home (11 N Main St, Petersburg, WV 26847). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 29th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
