He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Sr. Nelson and Louise Nelson (Porter); his siblings, David Nelson and Barbara Nelson; and his nephew Randy Nelson, Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Yarnell; his sons, William Nelson Jr. of Meadville, PA and Nicholas Nelson of Meadville, PA; and his siblings, Vickie Nelson Erickson of Kane, PA, Nancy Petridge of Hampton, VA, Leonard "Otis" Nelson Jr. (Debra) of Kane, PA and Randy Nelson of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
