He was predeceased by: his parents, Encarnation Nieves and Marcela Santiago; his brothers, Tito and Jose Nieves; and his stepsister Carmen Garcia.
He is survived by: his wife Della Mae Nieves (Brown); his children, Manuel "Sam" Nieves, Jr. (Leslie), Debbie Stoltzfus (Amos), Brenda Herr (Meredith), Kathy Mae Nieves (Andrew Ard), Sara Jane Reaver (Jeffrey, Jr.) and Michelle Lee Maxey (Ernie Rodriguez); and his stepsiblings, Luz Maria Ruiz, Edna Laureano, Victor and Abraham Nieves. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
