With heavy hearts, we announce the death of John Jefferson Downing Sr. of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, who passed away on February 28, 2025 at the age of 72. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As John Jefferson departs from our midst, his spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved John Jefferson. Though John Jefferson may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Wayne, Sr. and Barbara Downing (Hite). He is survived by: his spouse Melita "Lita" Downing (Horne); his sons, John Jefferson Downing, Jr. (Kelly) of Maryland and Thomas Downing of McKeesport; and his grandchildren, Julia, Nate and Hailey. He is also survived by brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 5th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. (1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131). The military honors was held on Wednesday, March 5th 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location.
