He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Johnston and Lucille Johnston (Miller); and his brother Terrence Johnston. He is survived by: his wife Christine Johnston (Temcio); his daughter Heather Johnston; his pet Lola; his sisters, Phyllis Tokar and Patricia Annarelli (Joe); his nieces and nephews, Cynthia Reabe (Daryl), Kathleen Dohmlo (Tait), Thad Tokar (Gena), Christopher Johnston, Shawn Annarelli, Mandy Schultz (Tim), Ashley Annarelli (Jesse) and Christian Johnston; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Austin Tokar, Riley Tokar and Sawyer Schultz.
