He was predeceased by: his parents, John S Smith and Helen Sears Decker Smith; his brother Swengel J. Smith; his stepfather Kline; and his grandparents, Nellie George Anderson and Joseph Decker.
He is survived by: his wife Anna Marie Verbeck Smith; his children, Celestine Hopple (Brian) and Douglas S. Smith II; and his grandchildren, Kristen Renee Hopple and Sean Michael Smith.
