He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Salsgiver and Frances Benshof Salsgiver; his wife Elizabeth Salsgiver; and his sisters, Emma Lamar, Lucinda Trunk and Margaret Baran.

He is survived by: his sons, Charles (Stella Salsgiver), Donald Salsgiver of Ohio, James Jr. (Jane Salsgiver) and William (Melissa Salsgiver); his granddaughters, Carolyn Salsgiver of Marysville, PA. and Frances; and his son Roy Schropp of Windber, PA.. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
