Daryl Richard Leonard Obituary
Daryl Richard Leonard, 87, of Mapleton Depot, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 20, 2023, at Embassy of Woodland Park, Orbisonia. Born August 24, 1936 in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Lester James Leonard and Phyllis F. (Dell) Leonard. He was united in marriage to Phyllis C. Wakefield on February 14, 1959, at the 15th Street Methodist Church, Huntingdon, by the Reverend Dr. Dirk. Mrs. Leonard preceded him in death on November 5, 2012.
He is survived by three daughters, Karen S. Leonard of Huntingdon, Kimberly J. Brush of Huntingdon, and Katherine D. Price of Mapleton Depot; a son-in-law, Jay Sharrer of Lehigh Acres, FL; eight grandchildren, Jessica Progl, Tiffany Brush, Marc Brush, Carrie Brown, John Price, Heather Price, Crystal Eutzy, and Shawn Edwards; 22 great-grandchildren, Keandre Raddick, Corinne Garlock, Serenity Wagner, Ashtin Spennati, Dakota Progl, Khilee Casner, Maddison Brown and Timothy D. Brown, Trevor Skopic, Chase Knier, Addison, Braxton and Kingston Price, Ethan, Madalynn and Trenton Musick, Colton, Kayden and Alyssa Eutzy, Natalie, Hailey and Hunter Edwards; and two great-great grandchildren, Aiden Eutzy and Camila East. He is also survived by four siblings, Dauna Skipper of Tennessee, Barry Leonard and wife, Ann, of Huntingdon, Cheryl Glasgow and husband, Robert, of Myerstown, and Rodney "Butch" Leonard and wife, Karen, of Mount Joy.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Diane (Leonard) Sharrer on March 23, 2023; two grandchildren, Kenneth and Angela Wagner; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Mary Leonard.
Mr. Leonard was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of the former Jacks Mountain Lions Club, serving as a past president; and a former member of the Mount Union Lodge #688, F&AM, Mount Union. He also previously served on the Mapleton Depot Borough Council.
He was a 1955 graduate of Saltillo High School. He was an outgoing student and very involved with sports, including, football, baseball and basketball; and also participated in theater and choir.
Mr. Leonard was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon, retiring as a supervisor, with over 30 years of service. After his retirement from Owens Corning, he was a transportation driver for Updegrove School Buses, Inc.
In his earlier years, Mr. Leonard loved fishing and hunting, and enjoyed playing baseball on the Fiberglas team. He also enjoyed attending Huntingdon football games and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities, taking car rides on back roads, birdwatching from his front porch, and visiting family in various states. He was a devoted father and husband, and was the sole caregiver for his late wife for many years.
Family and friends will be received from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with Pastor Ted Hughes officiating. Interment will be in the Bowman's Chapel Cemetery, Mapleton Depot.
