He was predeceased by: his brother Jerry Rutter. He is survived by: his wife Marjorie R. Rutter (Kreitzer); his children, Cindy Johnson (Tom) of York, Tim Rutter of York and Tina Burkett (John) of York; his grandchildren, Terri Sigler (Mike) of York, Kelly Johnson of Willow Street, Danielle Strait (Andrew) of Charlotte, Megan Rutter of Silver Spring, Morgan Rutter of Los Angeles and John Burkett, Jr. (Hillary) of Beaver Falls; and his brother Michael Rutter of York. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
