He is survived by: his wife Barbara Jean Payne; his sons, James Lee Payne, Jr. (Sarah), John Edwin Payne (Chris) and Joshua Paul Payne (Heidi); his grandchildren, Madeline Payne, Grant Payne, Alexis Kerr (Brook), Zachariah Payne, Elias Payne, Caleb Payne and Hannah Payne; and his siblings, Garwood H. Payne, Jr., Joseph K. Payne and Sandra P. Simmerman.
