He was predeceased by: his parents, Christopher C. Haas and Irene S. Haas (Kratzer); and his brothers, Ralph, Vern and Neil.

He is survived by: his fiancée Beth; his stepsons, Rolland J. Newhart Jr. (Lisa) and Anthony T. Newhart (Beth); and his siblings, Glen (Debbie), Chris (Doris), Diane Beitler (Tom) and Gloria Schreiner (Richard). He is also survived by 3 grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be considered to the American Cancer Society.
