He was predeceased by: his parents, Reinhold George and Marjorie L. Ertel (Miller). He is survived by: his brother Reinhold Scott Ertel; his wife Karen D. Hunsinger (Hunsinger); his sons, Matthew R. Ertel and Kenneth L. Ertel; his sister Crystal L. Dawson; his grandsons, Logan Ertel, Avery Ertel and Grayson Ertel; his nieces, Rebekah Dawson and Lindsay Dawson; his mother-in-law Doris Hunsinger; and his brother-in-law Louis Hunsinger.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Colonial Park Fire Company #1, 433 S. Houcks Road, Harrisburg, 17109.
