Joyce Moore Civello Obituary
Joyce (Hontz) Moore Civello, 97, of Lower Gwynedd, PA, peacefully passed away on May 25. She was the beloved mother of Sam (Laura) Moore and Jocelyn (Jeff) Thompson and was predeceased by her two loving husbands, Samuel Moore and Charles Civello, as well as her bestfriend/sister, Carolyn Hamilton. Granmommie Joyce leaves behind 4 grateful grandchildren: Ashley (Phil) Zimmerman, Kaylin (Joe) Feliciani, Jeffrey (Kendall) Thompson and Jon Thompson. In addition, she had 6 great grandchildren who lovingly called her Great Great.
Joyce spent most of her working years employed as a Teller at Provident National Bank/PNC Bank, Upper Dublin Branch, where she worked part-time while raising her small children and then later moved up to a fulltime Head Teller position until her retirement in 1988. Along with working, she was an active volunteer in PTA, UD Women's Club and Girl Scouts, as well as taught Sunday School and sang in the choir at The Reformed Church of Willow Grove. After retirement, she taught pre-school for a few years until she began watching children in her own home. Joyce became a surrogate grandmother to a few families that still treasure her deeply.
Joyce loved to bake Christmas cookies, Surprise Cupcakes and the most amazing birthday cakes. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting as well as playing piano duets with her neighbor. She loved to entertain both family and friends, threw many wonderful surprise birthday parties and showers, and greatly enjoyed dancing, with the Jitterbug being one of her specialties! Wherever Joyce was, there was sure to be laughter and plenty of joy!
For the past 12 years, Joyce lived in Spring House Estates. During her years in Independent Living, she served as a Wing Director, worked in the Gift Shop, called Bingo and sang with the assisted and skilled care residents, and was active with the Annual SHE Fundraising Bazaar. She continued with her love of crocheting for many years there and was an active member of the SHE Choral Group and the church quartet. She played weekly card games and was often the "Rummikub Queen"! Her family called her the "Mayor of SHE" as she seemed to know everyone, whether resident or staff member. Joyce spent her final two years in Assisted Living, where she was well-cared for and very happy, which gave great comfort to her family.
As per Joyce's wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Her ashes will be taken by her children to be buried in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven, PA.
