He is survived by: his wife Kristine Bates (Beattie); his son Sean R. Bates; and his siblings, Cathy Christoforetti (Mark), Bill Bates (Lorraine) and Rick Bates (Marcia). He is also survived by several other relatives, including in-laws and several nieces and nephew.
