He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Smith and Pearl Alcorn Smith (Cooper); his grandson Michael Aaron Smith; and his brothers, Richard C. Smith and Jeffrey Peter Cooper.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia L. Azzara Smith; his children, Charles A. Smith Jr., Walter F. "Sonny" Smith and Maria M. Ratliff (Ben); his grandchildren, Rachel Catherine Smith, Nicole Patricia Smith, Bennett Harold Ratliff III and Lillian Pearl Ratliff; his great grandchildren, Aaron Rivera, Adrian Martinez, Giovanni, DeAngelo and Santino Green; and his brothers, Ronald Howard Smith and Robert Michael Cooper.
The family requests that those wishing to send flowers send a perennial plant or other plant that can be transplanted to "Snuffy's Place," or a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
