He was predeceased by: his parents, James Bates and Barbara Bates. He is survived by: his children, Tyler Bates (Kassi), Jeremy Bates (Kathryn) and Bethany Wagner (Anthony); his grandchildren, Oliver, Evalyn, Ezekiel and Lydia; and his siblings, Lonnie Wilson (David), Robin West (Bruce), Jimmy Bates, Kevin Bates and Bobbi Heck (Kenny). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
