He was predeceased by: his parents, James Merrill and Erma Merrill (Bardo); his son Charles Merrill, Jr.; and his grandson Carl Merrill, Sr.. He is survived by: his former spouse Jean Merrill; his children, Carleen, Beverly, Paul Merrill (Dixie), Marilyn George (Alvin), Kathleen Merrill (Dennis Winner) and Valerie Johnston (Robert); and his grandchildren, Colton Confer, Amber, Kassie, Chase Johnston, Cody, Abby Bradley, Seth, Heather Miller, Brice, Hannah Royer, Catherine Merrill, Caitlin Hopkins, Brittany, Cierra Merrill, Christine, Clint Dorman, Curissa Ertwine, Dekota Welker, Jennifer, Chad, Jessica Jeirles, Keith, Megan Merrill, Stacey Bowes, Shane Merrill (Brenda), Shawn Merrill (Christine), Travis George (Brenda), Alvin Jr George (Evie) and Melony Merrill.
