He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Frank P. Heckel and Mary Garber Heckel; his wife Edith Spalding Heckel; his children, Pamela Whallon (Peter Whallon), Mary Welk (late Curtis Welk), Sarah Summers (Robert Summers) and David Heckel, Jr. (Melanie); and his grandchildren, Leah Rude (David), Carrie Redgate (Scott), Olivia Pollock (Tyler), Colleen Corcoran (Patrick), Morgan Heckel, Molly Welk (Cory), Adam Welk, Anna Summers, David Heckel III and Zachary Welk.
