He was predeceased by: his parents, Clair D. James and Vivian B. Moss James; his wife E. Claudette Abernathy James; and his siblings, Oscar, Thomas James, Rita Nunemacher and Glenda Binkley.
He is survived by: his children, William H. (Deborah Shelton) of Mechanicsville, VA, David E. II (Marilyn James) of Elizabethtown and Deborah E. "Deb" (Robert Adcock) of Lititz. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.
