He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard N. Derstler and Florence K. Hershey Derstler; his wife Joyce M. Shaub Derstler; and his granddaughter Alecia Ratliff. He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey (Glenda Sue Derstler) of Strasburg and Denise Ratliff of Akron; his grandson Christopher Ratliff; and his brother Gordon Derstler of Lititz.
