He was predeceased by: his wife Edith "Pat" Greenhalgh Mitchell; his brother Franklin Mitchell; and his grandson James Gillespie. He is survived by: his children, Cheryl Gillespie (Bill Joyce), Robert S. III Mitchell (Kathleen), William N. Mitchell (Tina) and Cynthia P. Graham (John); and his sister Laurie Kaiser (Charles). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren.
