He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mahaffey and Sarah Kinley Mahaffey; his son Raymond K. Mahaffey, II; and his brother Ernest Mahaffey. He is survived by: his close friend Jo Hillyard of Jersey Shore; his children, Suzanne Plank (John) of Liberty, Brenda Freezer (Jeff) of Linden and Tim Mahaffey (Cami) of Jersey Shore; his daughter-in-law Lori Mahaffey of Linden; his grandchildren, Christopher Plank, Jonathan Plank, Nicole Freezer White, Jesse Freezer, Lucas Mahaffey, Logan Mahaffey, Alexandra Mahaffey, Adam Mahaffey, Maddie Rooney and Zach Rooney; and his siblings, Clifford, Robert Mahaffey, Edna Confer, Helen Thatcher, Carol Dawes, Peg Dawes and Diane Plank. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
