She was predeceased by: her parents, Clinton McHenry and Sarah McHenry (Frank); her son Steven Brooks; and her siblings, Lewis, Robert, Danny McHenry and Shirley Horn.
She is survived by: her husband Hubert C. Hakes; her sons, David Brooks (Carol) of Linden and Brett Hakes (Rosemarie) of Linden; her stepchildren, Brian Keith Hakes of Linden and Ronna Hill (Mike); her grandchildren, MaKayla Hakes, Chuck Brink (Crystal), Brianna Hakes, Eric Hill (Autumn) and Erin Shaffer (Chris); her great grandchildren, Addison, Gage, Emmalynn Hill, Kolby and Sophie Shaffer; and her brother Kenneth McHenry of McElhattan.
