He was predeceased by: his parents, Cloyd W. Shilling and Mary Shilling (Baumgardner); his children, Mary Shilling, Connie Mowry, Peggy Davis and James D. Shilling, Jr.; his daughter-in-law Debbie Shilling; his siblings, Harry "Whitey" Shilling, Richard "Dick" Shilling, Cloyd Shilling and Ida Wheeler; his half-brothers, John Larson and Charles Miller; and his sister-in-law Nina Shilling.
He is survived by: his wife Geraldine Shilling (Bender); his sons, Mark J. Shilling of Lewistown, Todd A. Shilling (Susan) of Lewistown and Eric D. Shilling of Lewistown; and his brother Kenneth Shilling of Lewistown. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
