He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold L. Mertz and Caullie C. Mertz (Goss); his former wife Arleen M. Mertz (Bingman); his wife Melba E. Mertz (Wagner); his brother Max L. Mertz; and his grandson Neil E. Mertz.
He is survived by: his son Nelson E. Mertz (Daphne) of Chambersburg, PA; his stepchildren, James Michael Wagner (Jill) of Lewistown and Barbara Gamache (Robert) of Norristown, PA; his grandchildren, Angela Wageman of Poulsbo, WA, Janice Besecker of Chambersburg, PA and Jason Mertz of Chambersburg, PA; and his stepgrandchildren, Christopher Wagner of Lewistown, PA, Craig Wagner of Macungie, PA, Lauren Ciccarella of Lansdale, PA, Stephanie Riccardi of Fairless Hills, PA and Kyle Schmidt of Reedsville. He is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no public viewing or services.
