The passing of John R. Shafer of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, born in Hummels Wharf, Pennsylvania leaves a void in the hearts of many, as we bid farewell to a loving soul who departed on January 13, 2025 at the age of 97. He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward C. Shafer and Helen I. Shafer (Grubb); his former wife Doris J. Shafer (Luckenbaugh); his wife Phyllis Shafer (Wagner); his son Edward P. Shafer; his granddaughter Monica Weaver; and his brother-in-law Warren Hall.
He is survived by: his children, Irenay Weaver (Robert) of Montoursville and Eric Shafer (Robin) of Selinsgrove; his daughter-in-law Linda Shafer of Williamsport; his grandchildren, Brian Shafer (Pam Miller), Elissa Weaver, Heather Shafer, Ryan Weaver (Elisa), Kyle Shafer (Paige) and Zachary Shafer (Hannah); his sister Phyllis Hall; and his nephews, Wade and Gary Hall. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Viewing was held on Monday, January 20th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Newberry United Methodist Church (2101 Newberry St, Williamsport, PA 17701). A funeral service was held on Monday, January 20th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Pomfret Manor Cemetery (900 Packer St, Sunbury, PA 17801).
