He was predeceased by: his parents, James Johnson and Rose Marie Johnson; and his brother James. He is survived by: his wife Paula A. (Tomcho); his children, Michael G. Jr. (Heather), Robert E., Brett J., Carrie Ann Marquess (late Art) and Matthew R. (Sophia); his great grandchild Salvatore; and his siblings, Gerald Johnson, Barbara Coughlin, Edward Johnson (Ginny) and Susan Johnson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
