He was predeceased by: his parents, Reuben Mertz and Ethel Mertz (Benner). He is survived by: his wife Kathleen L. Mertz (Croyle); his children, Amanda M. Yost of Bethlehem and Ryan A. of Bethlehem; his granddaughter Alyvia Yost; and his brother Barry (Jacqueline) of Limington, ME.. He is also survived by 3 nieces.
