He was predeceased by: his wife Stephanie "Stella" Kapela (Cygnarowicz); his parents, Wojciech Kapela and Maryana Kapela (Koztoska); and his sibling Aniela. He is survived by: his children, Phyllis Kapela, Albert Kapela (Linda), Timothy Kapela (Maria), Valerie Zanotti (Keith), David Kapela, Nicole Brittner (Herbert), Mathew A. Kapela, Anthony Zanotti (Heidi), Joseph C. Kapela, Caroline Kapela, Victoria Zanotti (Zachary Knell), Matthew S. Kapela (Ashley), Paul Zanotti, Herbert Brittner IV, Madeline Zanotti, Elise Brittner and Vincent Zanotti; and his siblings, Joseph, Leocadia, Martha, Theodore, Stanley, Peter, Valerie, Seweryn and Zygmunt.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Matthew's name to St. Stanislaus Church-Stained Glass Window Campaign.
