He was predeceased by: his parent Charles Schnars; his brother Richard Schnars; and his father-in-law Lynn E. McLean. He is survived by: his parent Rose Schnars (Hospodor); his wife Lynda McLean Schnars; his children, Laura Armstrong (David), Scott Schnars (Jeanette) and Jeffery Schnars (Kelly); his grandchildren, Caleb Armstrong, Collin Armstrong, Morgan, Marisa, Merielle and Jocelyn Schnars; his sisters, Nancy Rooney (Gene), Deborah Frank (Steve) and Karen Carroll; his sister-in-law Cathy Schnars; his mother-in-law Marjorie D. McLean; his sisters-in-law, Bill McLean (Sue), Carol McLean, Scott McLean (Darlene) and Suzanne Johnson; and his friend Delta Sigma Phi. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
