He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas L. Smith, Sr. and Nancy Smith (Snyder); and his brothers-in-law, Brent Miller and Larry Bowman. He is survived by: his siblings, Doris R. Miller of Vandergrift, Nancy J. Bowman of Apollo, Lois J. Edinger (Larry) of New Kensington, Carmen L. Schrecongost (William Hamacek) of Marion Center, Richard S. Smith (Lori) of New Kensington and Charles A. Smith of New Kensington. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his housemates and caregivers.
