He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis E. Bates and Anna C. Bates (Braden); his brothers, Arthur, Charles and David Bates; his mother-in-law Helen G. Peffer; and his brother-in-law Wayne E. Peffer.
He is survived by: his wife Connie L. Bates (Peffer) of Latrobe; his daughter Heather Bates (Jake Daugherty) of Latrobe; his brother Eugene S. Bates (Donna) of Latrobe; his granddaughter Keagan Hood (Johan Ebbitt); and his sisters-in-law, Margaret Bates, Marian Bates, Connie Bates and Paula Walker. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
