She was predeceased by: her parents, Albert Leon and Evelyn Ruth Richards (Wills); her sister Phyllis Young (Richards) of Kokomo, IN; her brother-in-law Jack Johnson of Burlington, IN; and her stepdaughter Holly Long (Erkens) of Columbia, PA..

She is survived by: her husband Joseph A. Erkens; her daughters, Julia Davis of Biglerville, PA and Jacqueline Shade (John) of Honey Brook, PA; her siblings, Suzanne Johnson of Burlington, IN and Michael Richards (Mary Ann) of Walton, IN; her siblings-in-law, George Young, Barbara Demyanek (Andy) of Sarasota, FL and Mary Lou Erkens; her stepchildren, Beth Morgan (Jeff) of Schaefferstown, PA, Steve Erkens and Tony Erkens; and her grandchildren, Sara Shade, Angie Bean, Dan Carvell and Nicholas Morgan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephew and cousins.

“So sorry to hear about Carol's passing. Unfortunately living so far away we were not able to see her since July 2022, our last trip north to Pennsylvania. I was not aware she was so sick in the last month or so as trying to contact by phone was a 'hit or miss' situation. I pray she is now at peace. I know my brother(Joe), daughters Julie, and Jackie will miss her terribly. Prayers for all. Deepest sympathy, Andrew and Barbara (Erkens) Demyanek”
