He is survived by: his children, Jennifer Ayala (Joey), Amy Mendez and Carmelo S. Mendez (Michele); and his siblings, Luis Mendez (Carol), Isabel Goodman (late Dale) and Belen Gardner (Tom). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
