He was predeceased by: his mother Nancy Thompson Sr. (Gossett). He is survived by: his wife Carolynn A. Pfaff; his father Terry Thompson Sr.; his children, Patrick A. Thompson (Makayla) of Knox, Alexis V. Thompson of Knox and Kolton J. Thompson of Knox; his siblings, Matthew Thompson (Lisa) of Cranberry, Mark Thompson of Cranberry and Heidi Robinson (Chad) of Ohio; his mother-in-law Kim Pfaff of Shippenville; his brother-in-law Jason Pfaff (Jennifer) of Shippenville; and his father-in-law James V. Pfaff. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, and great nieces and nephews.

For a number of years he owned and operated Don Hartzell Motors, finally closing the business during Covid.
