He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Gates and Jenny Elder; his granddaughter Chloey Gates; and his brother Harry Gates. He is survived by: his wife Linda Peterson; his pets, Maci and Bella; his children, Erika Harle (Sean) of Knox, Shaun Gates (Toni) of Knox, Erin Palmer (Dan) of Parker and Brian Gates of Florida; his grandchildren, Madison Davis (John) of Knox, Bailey Harle of Knox, Tristan Harle of Knox, Cooper Harle of Knox, Morgan Harle of Knox, Lucas Palmer, Danica Palmer of Parker and Nicholas Gates of Knox; his siblings, Eugene Gates of Saxonburg, Katherine Welder of Ohio, Nancy McClain of Ohio and Mercedes Perrine of Grove City; and his great grandchild Olivia Davis of Knox.
