He was predeceased by: his parents, William E. Shay and Helen C. Shay (Bond); his wife Ruth Shay; and his brothers, William, Clair, Harold and Daryl Shay.
He is survived by: his children, Lori Shay of Elwood City, Lisa Bono (Randy) of Kittanning, Paula Bollinger (Ken) of Freeport, Paul Shay, Jr. (Shelley) of Kittanning and Christopher Shay (Kristin) of New Castle; his grandchildren, James Yackmack, Jessica Yackmack, Jeremy Yackmack, Jacob Shay, Kelsey Shay, Zachary Fuller, Gabriel Fuller and Benjamin Fuller; and his great grandchildren, Everleigh Yackmack, Axel Yackmack and Cameron Chopp. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and numerous lifelong friends.
